Black Belt Preparation
(for an Interview)
Preparation is the key to success in an interview with a prospective employer. The more homework you’ve done, the better able you will be to align your occupational strengths with the organization’s operational needs.
In the Internet era there is a wide range of available information, so success is also dependent upon the kinds of information you collect.
* Check with commercial research firms to acquire basic information about the kinds of products or services the organization provides as well as its facility locations, leadership and financial status
* Visit the organization’s Web-site to review what it says about its culture, priorities, employment opportunities and track record
* Use internet search engines to search for documents posted on the about the organization. These documents might be articles that have appeared in magazines or newspapers, and press releases from the organization itself.
All of this information is helpful in an interview because it enables you to:
* Provide a context for the answers you give to the interviewer’s questions.
* Ask questions about programs or activities that caught your eye as you conducted your research on the organization.
* Demonstrate that you have the initiative and drive to be successful.
Doing your homework about an organization conveys a positive message to the recruiter about your commitment to your work and to your career.

Back To Work Mothers
by Judi Perkins
Visionquest
www.findtheperfectjob.com
The biggest hurdle for mothers returning to the work force is their defensiveness about having been out of it for so long. Is it that different from the employee who was fired from their last job? It's only a matter of altering your perspective and pairing that with a winning sales presentation of yourself. And if preparation is important for the candidate who has been steadily employed, it's doubly important (if that's possible) for you. That's because if you haven't a clear focus of what you want, who you are, what your skills or strong traits are, you're going to be caught by the interview questions - especially ones directed at back-to-work moms - like a deer in the headlights.

Poll Results: How does your company rate when it comes to recycling?
April 22nd is Earth Day. We asked, "How does your company rate when it comes to recycling?"
- Fanatics 44%
- We have a program but it’s not used 11%
- We do not recycle 44%
Total Votes 9
Fun Facts from the US Environmental Protection Agency:
- In 1999, recycling and composting activities prevented about 64 million tons of material from ending up in landfills and incinerators. Today, this country recycles 32 percent of its waste, a rate that has almost doubled during the past 15 years.
- While recycling has grown in general, recycling of specific materials has grown even more drastically: 50 percent of all paper, 34 percent of all plastic soft drink bottles, 45 percent of all aluminum beer and soft drink cans, 63 percent of all steel packaging, and 67 percent of all major appliances are now recycled.
- Twenty years ago, only one curbside recycling program existed in the United States, which collected several materials at the curb. By 2005, almost 9,000 curbside programs had sprouted up across the nation. As of 2005, about 500 materials recovery facilities had been established to process the collected materials.
