Get Noticed This Summer Via Employees

As the excitement for the three blissful months of summer builds, it's more important than ever for you to capitalize on that energy and make sure that your company stands out as a stellar employer by marketing your employment brand.
An easy way to do this is to offer some simple summer perks to your current employees. The result? You will have them singing your praises to their friends, family and other prospective employees. Here are five ways to do that:
1. Offer Flexible Summer Schedules
Worried about the loss of productivity? Don't be. Consider extending the other work days by 30 to 60 minutes to substitute for the time off. You can also have teams of people that alternate their half day Fridays to ensure department coverage in the workplace.
2. Be Visible In Your Community
Pick one or two community events over the summer, provide your employees with shirts that have your logo and make an afternoon of it. Let your community see that your employees are having a good time at local fairs, festivals and community celebrations.
3. Host an Annual Summer Outing
Do you have an annual summer time corporate gathering? Consider a picnic in the park with field games, a day at the beach, or a ball game, attending as a group. Be sure to wear those company shirts, and if you have an opportunity to have a reserved section break out and display that company banner that you have packed away in your storage closet.
4. Stay Active
Put together a corporate sponsored co-ed softball team. Not only is this a great team building opportunity, but it also keeps everyone active and healthy.
5. Give Back
Politician and civil rights activist Barbara Jordan said, "A spirit of harmony can only survive if each of us remembers that we share a common destiny."
If a community works together, they shine together. Find ways for the employees in your company to give back locally. You would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't appreciate a company that supports other in-need organizations in their community.
In closing, an older study from 2011 on employee engagement [PDF] surprisingly found that employees are more positive today about the emotional elements of the work experience (i.e. purpose, fun, trust, and growth), than they were before the recession began in 2007. Use that knowledge to your advantage and set up some great summer perks that will increase your employees' engagement and get everyone talking positively about your company.
